Is The Earth Dying?  Aug 25, 2014

This RSR International poll of 10 countries in Europe, Asia and North America asks the question is the earth dying? The response outcomes prove fascinating. The majority of respondents believe the earth is dying. Our support question 2 asks respondents if they are religious and-or believe in God. These results were also interesting. More respondents believe the earth is dying than are religious or believe in God, though many respondents believe the earth is dying and are religious and believe in God.
The participating countries (with margin of error beside each total outcome) were: 1. Hong Kong/China (2.51%) 2. United States (2.98%), 3. Canada (2.98%), 4. England (4.77%), 5. France (5.42%), 6. Germany (6.33%), 7. Japan (6.44%), 8. Republic of Ireland (7.85%), 9. South Korea (8.91%), 10. Sweden (9.56%).
The response “Yes” from Question 1 "Is the earth dying" - occurred the most frequently in each participating country as follows: 1. South Korea (82%), 2. Japan (76%), 3. France (63%), 4. Germany (58%),| 5. Hong Kong/China (57%), 6. Canada (56%), 7. Republic of Ireland (53.5%), 8. Sweden (52%), 9. England (50%), 10. United States (48.5%).
Margin of error suggests that response outcome range is: between 73-91 per cent of people living in South Korea are of the opinion that the earth is dying For Japan the percentile range is 70-84%, France 58-68%, Germany 52-64%, Hong Kong/China 55-59%, Canada 54-58%, Republic of Ireland 45-62%, Sweden 41-61%, England 45-55%, United States 46-51%.
In our RSR support question 2: Are you religious, do you believe in God? - the line up of countries with highest percentage “Yes” changes most dramatically as follows: 1. United States of America (68%), 2. Republic of Ireland (63%), 3. Germany (61%), 4. Sweden (56%), 5. South Korea (53%), 6. England (50%), 7. Japan (48%), 8. France (47%), 9. Canada (39%), 10. Hong Kong/China (30%).
South Korea drops from 1st place to 5th from question 1 to 2, Japan 2nd to 7th, France 3rd to 8th, Germany 4th to 3rd, Hong Kong/China 5th to 10th. Canada 6th to 9th. Republic of Ireland 8th to 2nd, Sweden 8th to 4th, England 9th to 6th, United States 10th to 1st. Five countries South Korea, Japan, France, Hong Kong/China, and Canada are more inclined to answer “Yes” to the statement the earth is dying than they are to be religious or believe in God. Four countries are more inclined to be religious or believe in God than to believe the earth is dying-Republic of Ireland, Sweden, England and the United States.
Germany is the only country that appears to have the same number of people who agree the earth is dying and who are religious or who believe in God.
Based on each participating countries population the percentile of people who believe the earth is dying is estimated to be (58%), while the number who are religious (and) or who believe in God is estimated to be (50%). Five to six countries are above or near the population of average of (58%) who believe the earth is dying, while four countries are below it. Six countries are above the average for percentile of persons who are religious or who believe in God, while four countries are below it.
If the two most populous countries, namely the United States and Hong Kong//China, are subtracted from the calculation than the average percentile of persons who believe the earth is dying is nearer two thirds, while the percentage who are religious or who believe in God is over 50 per cent. The United States and China's influence on the percentage of respondents who believe the earth is dying downward while the percentage who are religious or who believe in God remains unchanged whether the US and Hong/Kong China are in the calculation or not.

Methodology-This is an RSR ROBBINS International poll of 5,200 respondents among 10 countries with outcome adjusted for population. The Margin of Error (M.O.E) is 1.36%, 19 times out of 20 @ 95% confidence. The poll was conducted between August 12-22, 2014. Support for this poll remains Anonymous.
