| I wish I could come to your house instead. I’ve been to Ottawa, back in another life, very long, long ago. It’s a lovely place. It really is. I remember the Rideau Canal. I bet that makes you the Queen of the Rideau Canal. Because its like you’re the Queen of Something But I Don’t Know What. So maybe that’s what it is. |
| But like I said, I was home. Sitting on my stairs. These 5 stairs lead to a door. But it’s a door that I can’t pass thru. I don’t even know whats on the other side of this door. But I bet its ugly, whatever it is. Nothing behind the unit block of Hastings is nice. I don’t know where they took you when you were here. But you didn’t come by my stairs or doorway, that much I do know. |
| How many people drive down Hastings street, look at the people through the window, like watching a TV, get all “oh my” and hightail it for Burrard. But you know what? All the people you see on Hastings? Sometimes theres almost as many people in the lanes on either side, the north and south Hastings lanes. You have no idea. Sometimes theres as many people, in a square foot ratio kinda thing, behind the pawn shops as there is crossing at Howe and Robson. But, haha, you’d never confuse one group for the other. |
| But you know what? You have to say that you’re pretty lucky now. You come from a crazy place, a long way away and man, have you ever done well for yourself. In fact, what you’ve accomplished is truly amazing and nobody can ever take that away from you. The Governor General of Canada? Seriously. I salute you. |
| So, then, you know what? YOU should know better than to come down here, with a bunch of political hacks that think they’re our saviors (as long as they can get funding) and breeze through here like it’s a rainy day at the zoo and then get out and get to safer, high ground to some bun toss somewhere ASAP. |
| Well, that’s typical. You’ll go away with your memories of whatever sanitized version they fed you and one committee will report to another and then another committee will be formed, and of course…nothing will come of any of it. But everyone can congratulate themselves for showing their smug faces down there and hopefully that should be enough to guarantee the funding increase. |

| But I’ll be here should you come out this way again. I hope. If I’m not here just ask around. Maybe somebody robbed me of my stairs, took em for themselves. Because its not like I’d be gone on a Caribbean cruise or something. And if I’m ever floating down the Rideau Canal, I’ll call your name. |
