The Canadian Federal Election--the English debate

Again—the second debate in the Canadian federal election—in English---reinforced in all political handicappers minds—that the next Prime Minister of Canada is-------
Stephen Harper.
This part of the political equation is easy. What remains: will it be a majority or minority government?
Stephane Dion is Not- Hot in western Canada—his best game is in eastern Canada, Ontario, Quebec the big seat rich provinces—and the Atlantic provinces—where the people there like Harper’s careful leadership style but are worried what a majority might mean. Monsieur Dion made a valiant effort Thursday night in Ottawa-- to give his candidates in western Canada a fighting chance. Liberals prospects are better on Friday 3, 2008 than they were on Tuesday September 30, 2008.
Such is the life of a come from behind candidate.
Eastern journalists can’t get behind Jack Layton—what they ‘miss’ is the fact that there are many swing voters who are looking past some things they don’t like about the NDP—and still saying maybe to Jack Layton and the NDP---why not?
Layton clipped Harper twice in the debates. Two aggressive overhand rights briefly shocked the Prime Minister---who like John Travolta is someone you may not always love—but whose movies are generally good. In these times—Canadians will bet on Good--- 19 times out of 20---95% out of 100 times.
Gilles Duceppe is like a border collie. Possessed of sufficient knowledge and nuance to control what he chooses to---he relinquishes nothing to his opponents—yet never lacks in generosity.
I think some of the pundits particularly the males are patronizing Elizabeth May. If these two performances make her worthy of double digits—in public support---I had best roll up my data sheets---and commence to reliving the life and times of Cheech and Chong.
In relatively polite debate—I thought she was impolite—and I don’t think Canadians, particularly those who vote in higher numbers—will accept this from a newcomer—although I readily acknowledge that she is the one true Canadian green diva.
