The mainstream media is implicating the Internet as somehow responsible for misinformation or conspiracy driven information relating to the H1N1 vaccine.
Although I have witnessed many such criticisms of late, I am unable to know for sure what is meant by Internet information being "kooky" as suggested today by CKNW talk show host Christy Clarke.
If a person on the Internet goes to a site that offers alleged "kooky" information, couldn't we hypothesize that this person, if they believe the "Kooky" information, is also a "kook"?
How is it possible that the all reliable mainstream media would EVER connect with such "Kooky" types in any event?
It seems to me that any problems in communication related to the H1N1 discussion lay more at the feet -- of the mainstream press, than the Internet conspirators and "kooks" they crudely straw dog.
Wasn't it the mainstream press that recently suggested that 70% of British Columbians needed to be vaccinated against the H1N1 to be successful? How likely is this to be achieved when less than 50% of the population voted in the last general provincial election?
Is this objective -- coming from the government -- and through the mainstream press filter--thus "kooky" or just plain stupid?
This same mainstream press is now reporting that people are jumping ahead in line-ups characterized by at least one mainstream publication as "panicky".
Wasn't it one mainstream publication that was forced to 'apologize' for misinformation -- under the cartoon lampooning the Internet--than making contradictory statements about mercury NOT in the vaccine on one page, and admitting to trace elements of the product on another page?
More British Columbians are getting their information from the Internet, than the mainstream, or at least, a large portion of the public is. The mainstream press should ask themselves why.
Is it because the mainstream press has underestimated the size of the "kooky" demographic--or are they simply straw dogging the Internet generally--rather than contemplating the failures of their own media--as they ought to, to address the ever shrinking markets of consumers of news information, (including alleged conspiracy theory) which have resulted?
P.S. -- October 30, 2009
| On October 16, 2009 under BC polls -- Commentary, Glen P. Robbins wrote:
"Which hand gesture of solidarity will James Moore MP and his friends use at the Games? Certainly not the ‘Hello Hitler’ – (Hello Hitler ® Chocolate Bars go on sale—incredible bar—flavour to die for--) that previous -- Canadian athletes quasi-employed by a slight change from Hello Hitler to Hello Olympics is—in this coliseum—looking like armies of countries goose-stepping to that jazzy beat-- during the Nazi Germany summer Olympics –where American Black (as coal) stud-sprinter Jesse Owens – crushed the Games – and that murderous clown with the ‘make me bigger’ Nazi hat – and those that knew the score – that about seventy years ago – they were competing for personal 4 national ‘glory’ in Berlin – while innocent people were being herded – the way animals are today -- into cold chambers – and poison was dispatched through a hole in the ceiling---Z--B/ people scrambling over one another to get to the top of the heap of people dying, screaming – for one last breath of life --- no second wind here". |
This was written to context the debate relating to the Nazi Germany Olympics -- and murdering of millions of Jew, Slavs, Gypsies and others at the same time -- and what role Canadians had to play through their Olympic participation.
Okay - so that's the backdrop.
Today on CKNW's Edge of the Ledge CKNW's Bill Good Jr., Vaughn Palmer (Vancouver Sun) -- and Keith Baldrey were broadcasting from Sean Leslie's (CKNW's bureau chief in Victoria, BC) offices right where the Olympic torch relay was taking place -- and naturally they were talking about the 2010 Olympics -- as the first runner of the cross Canada relay was heading out after the ceremony.
(I lived in Victoria for most of my first 20 years and know the city downtown very well).
Baldrey was describing how "tight" security was, he had to go through "three" security checkpoints just to park his car.
After the ceremony was over -- news outlets were suggesting thousands of people were at the Legislature.
Remember what Baldrey told us about the security downtown! Little to no access around Victoria's Inner Harbour including in front of the Empress -- and in and around Government Street and other streets around the Legislative buildings and the legislative front lawn.
The news announced thousands were at the ceremony. I take thousands to mean at least 3 thousand (the approximate number we audited at the HST protest -- featuring Bill Vander Zalm, Chris Delaney, Carole James and others).
No camera shots on any media television were showing aerial views, no top down shots -- only close into groups -- camera angles showing 15 people in the picture -- and different pictures of 15 people--most camera shots very cosmopolitan and politically correct in the people content --- (suspicious of random aggregation right here).
From the CBC angle -- it was obvious to myself and to others watching with me -- including Jim Van Rassel -- (who had audited HST protest/rally with me) that about half the legislative lawn was empty.
Theory -- based on Baldrey's honest reporting of his security experience--knowing what the means in terms of access, plus the visuals from various camera angles-- it's my position that could not be thousands but ONLY hundreds in attendance.
So here is my conspiracy theory from the Internet. The celebration to begin the torch relay from Victoria across Canada was staged and sanitized and not a 'random' aggregation of citizens. (Rumours are floating that those in attendance were a perpetual pool of IC.B.C. jurors --).
Other news reports today spoke about the anger, the frustration with people panicking to get flu shots --- fear and rage -- afraid of dying -- and enraged that others might get an H1N1 shot in front of them.
Don't these two visuals stand up pretty well for 2009 against the Glen P. Robbins commentary on this scroll of the October 16, 2009 -- remarking on the essentially 'closed' Nazi games -- while people were herded and slaughtered -- measured against these Games --- and the fear and worry of slaughter from disease among the population?
The only difference is that this government doesn't want any Canadians to come to harm -- yet we cannot say that absolute -- because in fairness -- we do send Canadians off to fight -- knowing full well something tragic is going to happen from time to time in such a conflict.
Here is my ultimate point. The news of today showcases -- no matter what you think of the 2010 Olympics -- and I am a sports junkie so I will be watching -- hockey and women's figure skating mostly -- women's speed skating -- anyhow no matter what you think of the 2010 Olympics -- you have to admit that on the one hand having this sweet spectacle -- miner's latern to expensive state of the arm torches signifying the Olympics -- and on the other -- a chunk of the public fighting one another to be injected with a needle -- lest they die -- is pretty pathetic.
This took place in Victoria BC -- BC NDP Opposition leader Carole James back yard.
Carole in your opinion was this ceremony at the BC Legislature more staged or more random -- more open or closed?
Her answer will tell us alot.
PPS -- Got a deal for you. BC Government settles up with the GPR Holocaust --- $32.5 million -- and ROBBINS takes National Post and Times Colonist for $25 million of it.
I will double the existing employee base of those two publications through ZEUS/ROBBINS within two years--if the feds want to kick in--/as well
