Commentary
Commentary-In this survey, the choices were described as follows and in this Order: (1) Mohammed Ali, sacrificed the best years of his boxing career to take a personal stand on behalf of his religious beliefs, against his forced induction into the war in Viet Nam. Fought George Foreman in Africa and won against all odds. (2) John McCain, held in a Viet Nam POW camp where he was starved, tortured, and treated brutally. Successful politician who exhibited incredible humility and never boasted or sought glory for his sacrifice. (3) Martin Luther King, against unfathomable meanness and violence by racist elements in the United States, sought through peaceful methods to bring about the end of American apartheid. Was assassinated. (4) President Ronald Reagan, lambasted and shamed by his political enemies for being an actor, or not sufficiently bright to hold the world’s highest political Office, stood toe to toe with the Soviet Union in a “High Noon” political stand-off and won the cold war. His efforts brought down the ‘evil empire’.
