Commentary
Stephen Harper and Conservatives are down (15%) in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, while Michael Ignatieff and Liberals are up (10%). Jack Layton and New Democrats are up (02%), while Elizabeth May and Greens remain about the same in public support.
Confidence in the federal Conservative government is waning -- as BC voters are beginning to wonder how good the government really is -- without necessarily screaming for an election -- AND the fact that Gordon Campbell (and Colin Hansen) are so poorly thought of by voters -- who are linking premier Campbell and to a lesser (but noticeable extent) prime minister Harper to the HST -- taxes -- big corporations like Banks and Oil companies -- they dont like -- or have confidence in.
Michael Ignatieff and Jack Layton ought to pursue a federal election -- particularly with the world heading this way to talk future business -- in so doing he will gain seats while the Conservatives will lose some -- possibly in British Columbia.
Amazing support for Vancouver-Whistler holding the Winter Games in 2014 -- with over three out of four voters supporting the no cost replacement proposition.
An interesting outcome for many supporters of the Olympics success -- likely best summed up by one voter who said Its one of the few things the provincial government has done that I am proud of.
Nearly nine out of ten decided British Columbian voters living in the lower mainland of BC support Premier Gordon Campbell resigning very soon. Torstar -- needs to seriously consider their future media ambitions -- as they are entering a hornets nest of voters/consumers who hate the government and dont trust the media.
Advertising departments will be seeking out monies saved by Finance Minister Colin Hansen -- on his disapproved pro HST mail out -- for themselves. In totality it is really quite repugnant.
A high Undecided over this version of a proposed Bank Tax -- does not mask the fact that three out of four decided voters in the Lower Mainland support the idea of a Bank Tax based in part on the rate of bonuses paid to high level bank executives.
Three out of four decided BC voters would like to see Vancouver host a soccer World Cup? -- good news for Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson.
Six out of ten decided BC voters would like to see the province of British Columbia move more toward nationalizing our energy interests to better protect the BC environment and waters off our coast. We believe this high number is based in part on British Columbians mistrust of large oil and gas companies, combined with the recent disaster off the coast of the United States.
Two out of three decided voters are of the opinion that the pipeline through British Columbia from Albertas tar sands to BCs west coast for shipping by supertanker ought to be reconsidered.
A low minimum wage policy is no longer acceptable to British Columbians (edited).
A sample of 1,033 BC voters between April 25-May 3, 2010. Margin of error 3.0% (approx) plus or minus.
John F. Kennedy -- President of the United States was assassinated when I was in grade two.
My teacher -- Mrs. Jacobi -- the first of many lady teachers I would ultimately fall in love with.
Our Lake Hill elementary school Principal -- for all seven Robbins children (see Gordon Head elementary -- Lake Hill elementary)-- David Jones was a big square shouldered principal -- who could hit a softball out of sight/site.
Dave Jones was like my father -- my dad-- Douglas -- big handsome and strong.
I never lost a fight at the Red Lion Inn -- in Victoria B.C. -- won some early KO's against higher odds.
I knew something was happening the minute I saw Mrs. Jacobi --- she was sweet -- but very strong -- her husband would come to my hockey games--
I knew when I was seven years of age -- something was happening -- and it was big.
My family upbringing was pretty socially liberal--with an author-atarian father and automatic-cratic mother--both of them--each of them pushing all seven kids to win -- I loved it -- was the best place to be--every weekend championships----big games -- Someday--
The assassination messed them up both pretty well.
Bobby Kennedy -- and JR.
I grew up a hippy -- on Vancouver Island --with an older brother who knew brylcreem and whose friends robbed banks while he sold stolen cigarettes from his Mt. View High School (edited) locker -- his report always read Straight A's.
The coolest person in town was living in my house.
The United States has bared it's soul -- as a nation -- and we have not.
I'm your Venus -- I'm your fire of joy desire.
